         Moses returned to the Lord and said, "Lord, why have You brought trouble upon this people? Is this why you sent me? Ever since I went to Pharaoh to speak in Your name, he has brought trouble upon this people, and you have not rescued Your people at all."  - Exodus 5:22,23.

       The Egyptians had just commended the Hebrew slaves to produce the same number of bricks even though they now had to collect their own straw. The Egyptian slave drivers used Israelite foremen to see that the quota was fulfilled. If this failed, the Israelite foremen were beaten by the slave drivers. Hoping to get relief, the Israelite foremen appealed to Pharaoh himself. That proved futile because Pharaoh taunted them as being lazy.

       The Hebrew foremen confronted Moses and Aaron who were waiting for them outside the palace. The foremen were direct and crude. The foremen thought Moses had bungled matters. 

       But there were several reason God sent this suffering.{1} The Israelites had lived in the most fertile portion of Egypt for hundreds of years. Unless life got unbearable, they would not want to leave and go back to the land God had appointed for them. {2}The Israelite foremen were key persons in the slavery. Because they were Hebrews they could communicate better with slaves. But unless things got difficult for them, they would not support the exodus. Now they got beaten by the Egyptian task masters.

       We too today, because of our lack of far-reaching vision, have many questions as to the way in which God is leading us. But we have been told that if we could see the end from the beginning, we would not choose any way other than that in which God is leading us. In the end the Egyptians not only released the Israelites, they expelled. 

GO IN HIS STRENGTH

 Topic: GO IN HIS STRENGTH

"He imparts vigor to the fainting, and those who have no might He increases strength."    - Isaiah 40:29

          The lad stood in the valley holding his simple weapon. His heart beat faster. The earth seemed to shake as his formidable enemy approached him. Could he defeat this giant? Would his weapon prove effective in bringing down the Philistine warrior? He knew from experience that a power greater than himself was behind him. He felt his eyes and his hands guided by this unseen power that had often guided him as he defended his flock on the Judean hills.

          So David steadied himself and, in response to the insults hurled upon him by this heathen war machine, swung his sling and saw the stone aiming straight for the giant’s forehead. The battle was won! The God of David had increased his strength.

          God always comes to the aid of those who are faint and need lifting. It is ironic that when we are the weakest, He is the strongest for us. “My strength is made perfect in your weakness,” He declares {2 Corinthians 12:9}., Every time the people of God needed Him, God was there in all His might. Remember the pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night? That was God, shielding His people from their enemies. What a mighty God we serve!

           And then into our own spiritual battlefields, He cones, granting power and grace and the strength of will. He is the author of our faith. What He has begun in us He is able to finish.

          Do you feel weak spiritually? Do the challenges facing you seem insurmountable? Have faith in the power of the Holy One. Ask, and it shall be given to you to be victorious. He is the winner. All authority in heaven and on earth belongs to Him. Go forth in His name.

SECRET SERVICE

                             Topic: SECRET SERVICE

 

   "But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your alms may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. "  - Matthew 6:3,4.

            While the gift given in the cause of God will bring blessing to some needy person, it is the motive of giving that the Lord judges. Jesus cautioned that not only others should not know about our giving, but also our left hand. We are not to let our light shine to be praised by others. Our acts of goodness should bring glory to God alone. The Pharisees showed off their gift-giving by making it a display. They wanted the praise of men. Jesus did not approve of their wrong motive in giving.

            God does not like hypocrisy and outward show in religious duties. Everything must be done as an act of gratitude and service.

            The giving must be done from an inward principle. Giving for self-exaltation is a subtle sin. Jesus said that these pompous givers had their reward as they promised themselves. But the reward for the humble giver comes from the Lord. He rewards us not as a master who gives his servant what he earns, but as a doting father who gives abundantly to the son who serves him.

            Jesus calls us to a life of service. This service is an integral part of being His disciples. This service must be driven by compassion and brotherly love. We are to exhibit the attitude to Christ in relating to those needing our help. In serving others, we become partners in His mission of mercy.

            In Matthew chapter 25, Jesus lets us know just where to find Him-among the poor, the hungry, the thirsty, He rebukes those who claim to be doing acts of goodness, but they are not where He is. He declares that they have no claim on His kingdom.

            Christians should be angels of mercy. The whole world of suffering lies before us. We can choose our role in the secret service with the Master.

LEARNING TO FLY

              Topic: LEARNING TO FLY

     " The eternal God in thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms; and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee: and shall say, Destroy them."       -   Deuteronomy 33:27.

         Frances Hamerstrom spent her life studying wildlife.
In her book “An eagle to the sky” {1970} she describes the flight of an eaglet. When the male chick was big enough, the parents would fly past it with empty feet. The baby would scream for food, standing on the very edge of the nest. Sometimes the parents fed him, but more often he was left to find his own food. He would pick at the remains of earlier meals. And grew thinner and quicker. Then one day, a parent flew past the chick, carrying a young marmot. The eaglet lunged for the food and in so doing, fell from the nest into the emptiness below.

        He flapped his wings and managed to glide across the valley to land on a bare knoll. As it turned to get its bearings, the parent drooped the marmot nearby. The eaglet pounced on the prey and ate his fill.  The parents had flown right alongside the eaglet as he made his first flight. Biologists tell us that when eaglet is forced out of the nest, the parents fly right next to it, or usually under it. If the baby falters, the parent flies right under and ‘pick’ up the baby on its giant wings.

        I like that. I like to think that the everlasting arms of my heavenly Father are beneath me, ever ready to scoop me up and set me down on firm ground. How many times we follow the wrong road, take the wrong turn, or listen to the wrong voice. And all the while the Father waits patiently, working alongside to bring us home. The wonderful father in LUKE 15  sat at the gate every day, scanning the path for any sign of his boy, ready to run and gather the young man in his arms. And gather he did as his son buried his face in the father’s bosom and mumbled an apology.

       As we move through this life journey, we can be conscious of those mighty and everlasting arms spread beneath us. Matthew Henry points out that “those who make God their habitation, shall have all the comforts and benefits of a habitation in him {Psalm 91:1}. Never were people so well supported and borne up. Howsoever low the people of God are brought at any time, everlasting arms are underneath them, to keep the spirit from sinking, from fainting, and their faith from failing.”

       What a mighty God we serve! May this eternal God be our God as we prepare to fly throughout our life.   

UNDER HIS WINGS

   Prayer has power to change us. Promise claiming believers can expect miracle. Personally prayer has always given me abiding peace, a sense of deep purpose and a clear perspective. It has also offered me a plan of action and power to experience peace, progress and prosperity. Claiming promises of God is a regular feature in my life. So claiming the promises and maintain a prayerful attitude can help achieve all that we need in life.

      Every Christian can smile at the storm because God is their refuge, fortress, deliverer, shield and stronghold. It is essential to smile at the storm because God is still in charge of life and death. But is it possible for us to smile at storm? Yes it is. When a person is born again he is a new creation and he has the capacity to look at adversity in a positive way. He has the attitude of viewing life circumspectly and has the backing of powers beyond compare. He may be standing against the mighty or he may be the poorest of poor. He may be in the most venerable position.

      Yet God is willing to give him a broad and wonderful smile that radiates confidence, courage and commitment to face any eventuality. They can smile at the storm as they go sailing home. But how can it happen and what is the basis of such an explanation. God’s promises is back by the authority of his name.

     This is the basic operating principle. Because of this we are able to claim it with confidence and trust. Jesus never fails and has never failed. Heaven and earth may pass away But what Jesus has promised will never pass away. Every believer who claims any promise can be sure of its intent and potency. For example “Ask of me and I will give the nation for your inheritance and the ends of the earth for you possession ” Psalm 2:8. It looks to be unbelievable. But it is true. Can any promise be more comprehensive and compact than this.

     The second principle that is important in applying promises and prayer is that God is able to supply all our needs and not our greed. Sometimes we make our wants our needs. This leads us to unrealistic expectation. While prayer is the breath of the soul the promises of God offers the depth of God’s priority for humanity. This depth of God’s concern for man makes every provision for all our needs and situation we will face. I believe this Devotional writings will enhance your growth maturity to the extent of accepting all circumstances of life as life-transforming and faith-affirming in God’s authority.

     Promises and prayer are not just for our peace of mind to insulate us from every external influence. Instead they equip us to see and serve the world – the focus of God’s mission. We reach beyond the present to grasp hold of eternity. We become partners with God in the grand work of restoring people to a life of dignity and purpose.

     It is a privilege to commend to you the writings will bless you as you dedicate you devotional time in reading. You will grow in faith, hope, and love. Reflecting on the great promises of a loving God has been a very enriching experience for me I have enjoyed writing about His ways to help us find courage for the course ahead. Every promise is a revelation of the countless benevolent aspects of our awesome God. His promises are every morning.

     I believe that God is in control of all things and is, therefore, able to carry out His purposes. As you meditate upon these promises, you will meet a God who is mighty to save, lavish in His loving, and forgiving to the end.

     Think about this: If this God be for us, who can be against us? It is my prayer that His sure word will sustain you in all situations and will keep you smiling through life!
